The Senate passed a $1.5 trillion funding bill on Thursday to prevent a government shutdown and includes nearly $14 billion in aid for Ukraine.
The spending will enable the government to operate through September while also providing funds to bolster both humanitarian and military efforts in Ukraine. Senate approved the funding bill in a 68-31 vote after the House passed the bill on Wednesday. Per CNBC:
The bill passed Thursday includes $13.6 billion in aid for Ukraine as the country enters its third week of fighting off a Russian invasion. The money will go toward helping the Ukrainians displaced by the Russian assault, including the more than 2 million people who have fled the country.
Ahead of the vote on Thursday Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “We’re giving the Ukrainians billions for food, medicine, shelter, and support for the over two million refugees who have had to leave Ukraine, as well as funding for weapons transfers like Javelins and Stingers.”
