Rep.Ā Jasmine CrockettĀ (D-Texas) on Tuesday criticized rapperĀ Nicki Minaj’sĀ recent dabbling in conservative politics, accusing the singer of ā€œselling outā€ toĀ President TrumpĀ and his administration.

Minaj, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago,Ā wrote in a 2018 Facebook postĀ that she came to the U.S. illegally when she was 5 years old. She was, at the time, speaking out against the first Trump administration’sĀ controversial policyĀ that separated migrant families at the southern border.

The entertainerĀ posted a photoĀ on the social platform X after the event of a ā€œgold cardā€ she had been given by Trump, later writing that she had received it free of charge and was ā€œfinalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak.ā€

The gold cards, established through a September executive order, typically come with a $1 million fee for individuals and a $2 million fee for corporations to expedite the citizenship process for highly skilled foreign workers. The White House clarified in a statement to The Hill that what Minaj received was a ā€œmemento,ā€ not a visa document.
