Rep.Ā Jasmine CrockettĀ (D-Texas) on Tuesday criticized rapperĀ Nicki MinajāsĀ recent dabbling in conservative politics, accusing the singer of āselling outā toĀ President TrumpĀ and his administration.
Minaj, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago,Ā wrote in a 2018 Facebook postĀ that she came to the U.S. illegally when she was 5 years old. She was, at the time, speaking out against the first Trump administrationāsĀ controversial policyĀ that separated migrant families at the southern border.
The entertainerĀ posted a photoĀ on the social platform X after the event of a āgold cardā she had been given by Trump, later writing that she had received it free of charge and was āfinalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak.ā
The gold cards, established through a September executive order, typically come with a $1 million fee for individuals and a $2 million fee for corporations to expedite the citizenship process for highly skilled foreign workers. The White House clarified in a statement to The Hill that what Minaj received was a āmemento,ā not a visa document.
