According to reports, a 93-year-old former Nazi concentration camp guard was convicted on 5,230 counts of accessory to murder in what is possibly the final World War II trial in history.

The man, identified only as “Bruno D,” was an SS guard at the Stutthof concentration camp from 1944 to 1945 near the Polish city now called Gdansk. Bruno D was just 17-years-old when he served as an SS guard and thus tried by the Hamburg juvenile court.ย The camp Bruno D was stationed, held roughly 100,000 people, and oversaw the murder of between 63,000 and 65,000 prisoners. The court convicted Bruno D of aiding and abetting the murder of at least 5,232 people during his tenure as a camp guard. During his trial, Bruno D argued that despite serving as an SS guard, he didn’t have an actual choice in the matter. The court ultimately handed Bruno D a two-year suspended prison sentence.
