Yaya Mayweather just got hit with a massive financial reality check over a 2020 stabbing incident that’s been haunting her for years.
A Texas judge ordered Floyd Mayweather’s daughter to pay more than $50 million to the woman she stabbed during a fight involving NBA YoungBoy, and the breakdown of that judgment is absolutely brutal. The court awarded Lapattra Jacobs $40.1 million in compensatory damages and added another $10 million in exemplary damages, which means the judge found Yaya’s conduct so egregious that she deserved extra punishment on top of the base award.
Past damages came to $8 million for medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical impairment, lost earning capacity, and disfigurement. The court then added $32 million for future damages in those same categories, recognizing that Jacobs faces permanent consequences from the attack.The judge specifically found that Yaya’s conduct involved an extreme degree of risk and constituted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is why the exemplary damages were approved without hitting the statutory cap that usually applies in Texas.
According to TMZ, the incident went down on April 3, 2020, at NBA YoungBoy’s home in Louisiana. Yaya showed up, found Lapattra there, and things escalated quickly.
She grabbed two knives from the kitchen and stabbed Jacobs, who ended up hospitalized with injuries to her arm and bicep that required surgery. NBA YoungBoy was home at the time but wasn’t involved in the physical altercation. Yaya eventually pleaded guilty in 2022 to felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to six years of probation under deferred adjudication.
