Despite the social distancing measures and possible vaccines in development, the coronavirus may never go away according to a leading official of the World Health Organization.
While speaking at a presser in Geneva, Dr. Mike Ryan explained why he thinks COVID-19 could become part of human life moving forward in the way HIV/AIDS and the influenza virus. While there are reports of breakthroughs in a viable vaccine, Ryan noted,
“We may have a shot at eliminating this virus but that vaccine will have to be available, it will have to be highly effective, it will have to be made available to everyone and we’ll have to use it. This disease may settle into a long-term problem or it may not.”
