The 4th of July found many people heading to different spaces to watch fireworks, with many cities having shows planned.

Usually, the city of New Orleans has a great fireworks show, but the city wasn’t able to plan a show for July 4, 2021. However, that changed once Will Smith caught word, as he reportedly dropped $100,000 for fireworks to up over the Mississippi River. Will Smith is working on an upcoming movie called ‘Emancipation’ in New Orleans, centered around a slave named Peter who escaped from a Louisiana plantation and fought in the Civil War. It was noted ‘Emancipation’ was supposed to be filmed in Georgia, but the production site was changed following the revelation of strict new voting laws. Mayor LaToya Cantrell took to Twitter to speak on Smith’s gesture, saying:

“A fireworks display produced by ‘Go 4th on the River’ will take place in New Orleans along the Mississippi Riverfront at 9pm Sunday, July 4, 2021. The gift of city fireworks was made possible by actor and producer Will Smith, along with his company Westbrook.”
