According to Variety, famed director Spike Lee is tapped with directing ESPN’s new mutli-part documentary on former NFL quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick.
The project will focus on Kaepernick’s early life, playing career, and social justice work. News of Lee joining as the project’s director came on Wednesday when the two were spotted at the New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies game at Madison Square Garden. Variety reports, “[p]roduction has started on the documentary, which was first announced in July 2020 as part of Kaepernick’s first-look deal with Walt Disney through his production company, Ra Vision Media.”
