With the growing concern of school shootings in the United States, schools are now looking for innovative ways to protect their communities.

One school district just outside of New Orleans has found a solution in the form of artificial intelligence (AI). The Iberville Parish School District has partnered with a software company to install gun detection AI software in their schools. The district has spent a significant amount, $135,000, to upgrade its existing surveillance cameras with this new technology.

The main advantage of the software is its ability to analyze footage from the cameras and detect potential guns in real time. This technology is precious, considering the district’s 800 cameras spread across multiple campuses. It is only possible for a few people to monitor every camera effectively. With the AI software, any possible gun appearance is flagged automatically.
