Ever since controversy arose over Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” beingĀ removed from the Country music chartsĀ for essentially “not being country enough,” most of the hip-hop community has noted the clear double standard in play when outside artists dominate the urban charts with no such concerns.
One of the first artists to come to mind was Post Malone, whose unique approach to hip-hop has not only garnered him top billing on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts, but also several Grammy and Billboard Award nominations in those categories with Billboard naming “Rockstar” the Top Rap Song for 2018.
Recently,Ā Lord Jamar spoke on VladTVĀ about the hypocrisy involved with the mainstream’s placement of Post Malone, while theĀ Beerbongs & BentleysĀ artist himself was recently asked about the mixed reception to Lil Nas X, who dismissed any notion that there should be any controversy at all.
