In 2020, a woman named Rose Wakefield revealed she faced racial discrimination after a gas station worker in Beaverton, Oregon, reportedly told her, “I don’t serve Black people,” after refusing to gas her car up. Now, Wakefield has been awarded $1 million in damages by a jury in Multnomah County for the incident. While speaking to the news, Wakefield noted the racist encounter made her want to talk to the management of Jacksons Food Stores. However, her complaints were never properly recorded or heard, according to her lawyer.
