The entertainment community is mourning the loss of a TV icon today, as actor Luke Perry has passed away after suffering a massive stroke at the age of 52.

TMZ reports that Perry passed away earlier this morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, where he was rushed to last week after suffering the stroke while at his home in Sherman Oaks, California. From there, doctors had sedated Perry as they hoped to give his brain a chance to recover from the trauma of the stroke, yet it’s now been revealed that the damage was too extensive.

Perry was a star in the 1980s and 90s on hit shows such as “Another World,” “Oz,” “Jeremiah,” “Windfall,” “John from Cincinnati,” and “Body of Proof,” yet none were as notable as his role of Dylan McKay on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” where he became a household name throughout Hollywood. In more recent days, Perry had been starring in CW’s hit show, “Riverdale,” and is also set to appear in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Charles Manson movie, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” His death was both tragic and unexpected, while he’s survived by his two children, Jack and Sophie.
