Just before tip-off of the new NBA season against the LA Clippers, last season’s champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, received their championship rings.
The championship was extremely sentimental for the Lakers and their fanbase in the wake of the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant earlier this year. To commemorate Bryant, the Lakers’ title rings have a few distinct features that pay homage to the deceased basketball and cultural icon. For starters, the ring has a detachable top that unveils the Lakers’ retired numbers, highlighting, in particular, Kobe’s #8 and #24. There is also a Black Mamba snake on the side placed behind each player’s number. Not to mention, this piece designed by Jason of Beverly Hills is reportedly the most expensive championship ring in NBA history.
