For the first time in 27 years, the New York Knicks are playing for an NBA championship.
The Knicks completed their demolition of the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday, May 25 in the Eastern Conference finals, completing the sweep in a 130-93 blowout. The Knicks are playing historical basketball. They’ve now won 11 consecutive playoff games, which ties the second-longest streak entering the NBA Finals since playoff expansion in 1984. And they have posted a point differential of +262 over that stretch, which is best ever for any 11-game span in NBA history — regular season or playoffs.
By the time Knicks coach Mike Brown emptied his bench early in the fourth, New York had already outclassed Cleveland in fastbreak points (32-6), points in the paint (46-30), rebounding (58-33), bench points (39-7) and points off turnovers (28-14) The Knicks will now play the winner of the Western Conference finals between the San Antonio Spurs and reigning-champion Oklahoma City Thunder, which is tied, 2-2. The NBA Finals begin June 3.
