According to multiple reports, the Ukrainian jetliner that crashed in Tehran on Wednesday was “unintentionally” shot down resulting in the death of all 176 passengers.
Many of those on board were Canadian and Iranian nationals. Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani took to Twitter to relay the news and send his condolences for the ordeal.
“Armed Forces’ internal investigation has concluded that regrettably, missiles fired due to human error caused the horrific crash of the Ukrainian plane & death of 176 innocent people. Investigations continue to identify & prosecute this great tragedy & unforgivable mistake. “
Rouhani followed up that tweet with another expressing his condolences for the lives lost in the crash:
“The Islamic Republic of Iran deeply regrets this disastrous mistake, My thoughts and prayers go to all the mourning families. I offer my sincerest condolences.”
