NBA history is seemingly a hot commodity following the success of The Last Dance which chronicled Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ last season as a championship dynasty.

It could be difficult to put together a more compelling docuseries about a specific team or season, so HBO decided to craft a drama series instead to tell the story of the Los Angeles Lakers during the “Showtime” 1980s. The 10-episode series, Winning Time, is based on Jeff Pearlman’s non-fiction book “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s.” The series is scheduled to debut in March 2022.
