Gillie Da Kid recently joined Carmelo Anthony on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, where the Philly rapper-turned-podcaster addressed his headline-grabbing feud with former NFL MVP Cam Newton.

According to Gillie, the whole thing started with football and spiralled because neither side wanted to back down. Things escalated when Cam claimed that Gillie was twerking in a Ludacris music video. Gillie laughed off the claim, saying it wasn’t him — and took issue with Cam using his platform to push something he knew wasn’t true. While Melo tried to play peacekeeper, Gillie made it clear he doesn’t have real animosity toward Newton — but he’s standing firm on his football takes. The conversation eventually turned to Gillie’s now-famous oversized hat business, which he described as a multimillion-dollar marketing machine. He even pitched Melo on getting custom hats made for his Hall of Fame party, noting that “everybody” would want a photo with one.
