Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter has been fined and credited with serving a one-game suspension following a heated incident during the team’s season opener.
The NFL announced that Carter will forfeit his Week 1 game check of approximately $57,000 after spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott during Thursday night’s matchup at Lincoln Financial Field. The confrontation occurred just moments after the unveiling of the Eagles’ Super Bowl banner. During an injury delay early in the game, Carter and Prescott exchanged words before Carter spat at the star quarterback as the two began to separate. The 2024 All-Pro defensive tackle was immediately ejected from the game and did not play a single snap.
The league ruled that Carter’s ejection effectively counted as a one-game suspension, meaning he will be eligible to play in this weekend’s highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs. Carter has since admitted wrongdoing, telling reporters after the game that he “made a mistake” and vowed the incident would not happen again. According to the NFL Players Association, Carter does not plan to appeal the punishment.
