The DEA is warning people about an increase in brightly colored Fentanyl that is made to look like sidewalk chalk or candy, with the new form being seized in at least 18 states across the country this month.
They believe that the opioid, which is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, is being made to attract children and young people. DEA Administrator Anne Milgram addressed the situation in a statement, “Rainbow fentanyl — fentanyl pills and powder that come in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes — is a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults.”Â
There have been busts of the drugs in California, Oregon, Washington, and West Virginia, where 15,000 multi-colored pills were found on a person.Â
