According to reports, the camera used to film the LAPD beating motorist Rodney King in 1991 is going up for auction. The starting bid for the camera is $225,000.

The camera captured the incident, which went down on March 3, 1991. The man who filmed the incident—George Holliday shot the incident from the balcony of his apartment in Los Angeles. Because of the footage he captured, which was used in court, this set off the 1992 L.A. Riots after the four white cops who beat King were acquitted. Holliday spoke on the camera’s importance and said:

“I hope this video camera inspires people to use their power to record events that they find troubling.” He added, “Don’t be afraid to use it.”
