In what’s become a tradition, former President Barack Obama has shared a list of all his favorite works of art that came out in 2018 before the new year.
For his favorite songs, some notable inclusions were “Apes***t” by The Carters, “Kevin’s Heart” by J Cole, and “Wow Freestyle” by Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar in addition to many others. As for films, the 44th President highlighted Annihilation and Black Panther, as well as Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman. Of course not to be forgotten, he also listed his wife, Michelle Obama’s Becoming as his favorite book of the year.
In his own words, Obama described the purpose of the lists by saying:
“As 2018 draws to a close, I’m continuing a favorite tradition of mine and sharing my year-end lists. It gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved. It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before. Swipe through to see my best of 2018 list – I hope you enjoy reading, watching, and listening.”
