Veteran International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound revealed to USA Today that the 2020 Games will be postponed due to the continued spread of the coronavirus around the world.
This comes after Canada and Australia announced that they weren’t sending athletes to the 2020 Games. Pound stated,
“On the basis of the information the IOC has, postponement has been decided. The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know.”
Pound revealed that the games will likely be moved to 2021, with the IOC announcing more details in the next four weeks. However, the IOC has yet to release an official announcement on the cancelation of the 2020 Games.
