Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur will appear as characters in SEGA’s upcoming video game, Stranger Than Heaven.
The hip-hop icons were among a number of cast members revealed this week by developer RGG Studio, with Tupac set to star posthumously as the character Amaru, with permission from his estate. Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg is set to portray a newly created character, Orpheus. Stranger Than Heaven serves as a historical prequel to the long-running Japanese franchise, Like A Dragon (formerly Yakuza), and is scheduled for worldwide release on 15th January 2027.
The cast will also reportedly feature characters portrayed by Snoop Dogg’s son, Cordell Broadus, alongside singers Ado, Tori Kelly, and Satoshi Fujihara. They join a prominent Japanese cast that includes Takashi Ukaji, Yu Shirota, Dean Fujioka, and Moeka Hoshi. Additionally, the late cinematic icon Bunta Sugawara is set to make a posthumous appearance as the character Genzo Iwaki, with the formal permission of his family estate. It’s currently unclear if any of the characters outside of protagonist Makoto Daito, played by Shirota, will be playable in the third-person perspective game.
SEGA released a statement acknowledging the sensitivity around the late rapper’s inclusion in Stranger Than Heaven, NME reports:
“RGG Studio is treating this integration with the utmost respect for his legacy, crafting every aspect in close collaboration and without the use of AI, including his character design based on archival footage and photographs”.Â
