Maino has broadened his horizons with a new show titled “New Maino,” inspired by the acclaimed comedy series, “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Maino explained that he deeply studied Larry David’s approach to the semi-scripted, improvisational format, envisioning an urban twist on the concept. The pilot episode provides a humorous take on the ups and downs of his life, showcasing Maino waking up groggily after a heavy night of drinking and facing the chaotic consequences of his actions. He humorously navigates uncomfortable scenarios that contrast with the typical macho persona of rap artists. So far, one episode has been shot with plans for more, and Maino is weighing his options between securing a deal based on the pilot and independently producing the entire series to maintain ownership.
He also discussed the pros and cons of major record labels versus independent routes in the music industry. He highlighted that major labels invest significant funds in artists, but it’s ultimately the artist’s responsibility to recoup that investment. Maino emphasized the necessity of financial backing for a record to gain significant airplay, noting that successful marketing requires strategic planning and resources. When asked about his current financial status, Maino revealed he’s making more money now than ever, attributing his success to diversifying beyond music.
