Kendrick Lamar and TDE Drop ‘Black Panther: The Album’

After a decade of building their cinematic universe, Marvel has finally given a Black character the spotlight.

Black Panther is set to launch next week, and the hype couldn’t be higher for the film. The Disney/Marvel movie has earned a near-perfect score on the popular review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, making it the best-reviewed superhero film since The Dark Knight flipped the genre on its head in 2008. The film stars Chadwick Boseman in the titular role and is directed by Ryan Coogler.

Real life Black superhero Kendrick Lamar was tasked with curating and creating the soundtrack for the upcoming Black Panther movie, making it the first Marvel venture to feature an entire album full of new music for the movie’s release. Speaking about the opportunity to be involved in the project, Kendrick states, “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.”

The soundtrack features new music by Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Khalid, Future, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Vince Staples, 2 Chainz, Anderson .Paak, James Blake, Swae Lee and more.
