According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Justin Timberlake has sold his entire catalog to Hipgnosis Song Management, a Blackstone-backed management company, in a deal worth $100 million.
There are around 200 songs in Timberlake’s catalog, including #1 hits like “SexyBack,” “Can’t Stop the Feeling” and “Mirrors.” The deal reportedly took a year to close, and will not include any new releases from Timberlake.
In recent years, other artists have sold their 32-song catalog to Hipgnosis, including The Chainsmokers, who closed a deal with the firm in 2019, and Shakira, who sold her 145-song catalog in January for an undisclosed amount. Timberlake released a statement about the deal, which reads, “I am excited to be partnering with Merck and Hipgnosis — he values artists and their creative work and has always been a strong supporter of songwriters and storytelling. I look forward to entering this next chapter.”
