Donald Grover, known in the music world as Childish Gambino, just got Atlanta, an award-winning FX series renewed yesterday, June 7. Season 3 is supposed to air in early 2019.
The show’s plot focuses on two cousins who work in the Atlanta rap music scene in a bid to better their lives and that of their families. Atlanta‘s official Twitter account stated yesterday, “delivered. #AtlantaFX.”
Produced by FX Productions, Atlanta is executive produced by Glover and showrunner Paul Simms, Dianne McGunigle, Stephen Glover and Hiro Murai, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Atlanta is phenomenal, achieving and exceeding what few television series have done,” announced FX Networks and FX Productions programming president Nick Grad.
“We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”
The first season of Atlanta came out in September of 2016; the second season premiered earlier this year. The news of Season 3 renewal appeared soon after Childish Gambino’s hit success “This Is America,” which went platinum in less than a month, marking the artist’s fourth platinum-certified single.
