Lil Wayne fans received word they’ve all been waiting for when it was announced this week that Universal Music Group helped broker an agreement that frees the rap great from his contractual obligations to Cash Money and boosts the likelihood that his long-awaited Carter V album will see the light of day.

The news apparently ought to give French Montana fans just as much reason to celebrate.

Since anticipation for a fifth and final installment of the classic Carter series initially began to rise in 2012, some artists have hinted of sharing involvement in its creation. From Mannie Fresh to Soulja Boy, to Mike Will Made It, to DVLP, to DJ Mustard – producer after elite producer has teased their base about having a joint on the project, and there have been a few rappers who claim to have contributed a feature as well. For example, Travis Scott once tweeted that he and Wayne did something so “crazy” for C5 that he’d “cry if that album don’t come out.”

At this point, there is no telling whether or not the world will get to hear the Carter V in its most original form. Many feel as though the opus would at this point be so dated that it may be in Wayne’s best interest to re-record the entire project, but by the same token some of the alleged features are from artists who are in such high demand that one wouldn’t want to simply throw the tracks away. French, for one, says that he’s got a joint that brings him and Wayne together with Justin Bieber – and he is charged up to hear it hit the streets.
