According to TMZ, who obtained probate documents regarding DMX’s estate, Def Jam covered the cost of the late rapper’s funeral.

The label reportedly paid the $35,228 bill Brooks Memorial Home Inc. in Yonkers, NY sent to DMX’s family. During his service, DMX’s close friends, including Nas, Eve, and Swizz Beatz spoke about the beloved rapper, who tragically passed away at the age of 50 earlier this year. Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons also spoke via a taped recording, where he spoke about relating to DMX through their struggles with substance abuse. Simmons stated:

“I had been through struggles. So, I had all these experiences so I could relate to this man, and I know I was very lucky to have escaped. And this brother was going through what I had been through, and I knew it. And I did very little. And I’ll never forget that I didn’t do much to help.”

Following the service, DMX, whose real name was Earl Simmons, was led to the public service in a red coffin atop a custom-made Ford F250 monster truck.
