Chappelle did a set at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood when he asked the artist formerly known as Kanye West to grace the stage, though he didn’t perform.

Dave brought West up after finishing his stand-up set; apparently, as the Donda rapper approached, Chappelle joked, “Kanye West has lost more money than I’ve ever made.” The audience was ecstatic and cheered during Ye’s appearance, which saw him shaking fans’ hands and receiving a standing ovation.

The Comedy Store lineup that night was absolutely stacked with heavy hitters. Shane Gillis, Chris Rock, and Louis C.K. were all performing, which meant the room was already packed with comedy royalty before Kanye even showed up. The embrace of Kanye is far different from the treatment he is receiving overseas after he was banned from the UK and several of his stadium dates were canceled in Europe over his past anti-Semitic comments.

“The Netflix Is A Joke” festival runs through May 10, and if this first week is any indication, there’s going to be plenty more surprises before it wraps.\
