Hip-hop fans have been anticipating new music from Black Thought ever since his Funk Flex freestyle dropped several weeks ago. It looks like the Philadelphia born MC is granting us our wish. The Roots frontman announced Friday that he is indeed working on a new project with producer 9th Wonder.

Black Thought was hosting a screening of School Daze as a part of an event series, Black Thought Cinema Presents at the Gramercy Theater in New York City. After the movie he was joined by 9th Wonder, Jean Grae, Felonious Munk, The Roots’ Danielle Benton and several others on stage for a panel conversation. He made the announcement during the panel discussion. Thought offered up a few details on the upcoming project but didn’t really reveal too much.”It’s a first of a series that we’re putting out,” he said. “Just be on the lookout for the music that we’re about to hit y’all with.”

In 2016, Black Thought and 9th Wonder teamed up with Styles P to release a track titled “Making a Murderer.” Black Thought has gained a much larger commercial following since joining Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in 2009 but he’s been a cult hero to hip-hop fans for years. A Thought/9th. Wonder project is just what we need right now.
