Birdman was a recent guest on Jalen Rose’s “Renaissance Man Podcast” where among many things he discussed his take on hip hop turning 50 years old and what he thought about the celebrations honoring the genre.

The Cash Money Records co-founder didn’t mince words when explaining why he felt the South was slighted during the celebrations. Birdman said, “they don’t compliment the South enough to me, and I don’t respect that sh*t in Hip-Hop, we paved a big wave of keeping Hip-Hop alive.” Whether one believes the South has been celebrated enough or not during the commemoration, Birdman is correct in his assessment of the South’s importance to reinvigorating the genre at a time that the two major coasts were stagnant after the late 1990s.Â
