Rapper and filmmaker K’naan, whose real name is Keinan Abdi Warsame, arrived at the Quebec City courthouse for the beginning of his trial for sexual assault. 

K’naan, whose real name is Keinan Abdi Warsame, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s in a room at the Hilton hotel in Quebec City in July 2010, when he was performing at the Festival d’Ă©té de QuĂ©bec. The alleged victim testified she met K’naan online and arranged to see him during his performance. She described him as “absolutely charming” initially, but said he became “enormously angry” when she mentioned not having a condom.

According to CBC News, she woke during the night to find him having intercourse with her without consent. She testified they were kissing later in the hotel and it became clear that they were going to have sexual intercourse when she realized she didn’t have a condom. She said this made Warsame “enormously angry” and that he tried to have sex with her without a condom, but she pushed him off and he seemed to accept this and they went to sleep. She testified she woke up in the middle of the night and felt a weight on her and realized that Warsame was having intercourse with her.
