U.S. President Donald Trump and rapper Nicki Minaj arrived at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan, disembarking from Air Force One.
Their arrival draws attention as Trump continues his political campaign appearances in the state. Nicki spoke with White House communications director Steven Cheung during the flight, praising Trump’s business sense, negotiating skills and work ethic. At the rally, Trump turned to her body while recalling his remarks about Ohio Sen. Jon Husted’s days as a college football player.
Husted played defensive back at the University of Dayton, where former NFL coach Jon Gruden was one of his teammates. Trump said Gruden’s account of Husted’s hard tackles surprised him because he knew the senator as a humble man. Back in Port Huron, Trump expressed hope that Minaj had not taken offense before returning to his complaint about news coverage. Michigan voters will choose between Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed for an open Senate seat in the November 3 election.
