Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist have officially released Alfredo: The Movie, now streaming on YouTube.
Alongside the cinematic release, the duo also dropped the lead single “1995,” giving fans a first taste of their highly anticipated Alfredo 2 project, which they confirmed Thursday (July 17). Described as “a Tokyo crime saga,” the film stars both Gibbs and The Alchemist and is directed by Nicholas Walker. The stylish, noir-inspired short film follows a cryptic storyline told partly in Japanese with English subtitles, offering an atmospheric journey steeped in crime, tension and introspection.
Today, Freddie Gibbs and the Alchemist share their new single “1995,” the obvious sequel to their lead Alfredo single “1985.” “1995” is a lush, expansive workout that finds the two of them right back in their zone. There’s nothing surprising about it, but the pillowy pianos and spacey guitar licks ornament Gibbs’ agile, authoritative rasp beautifully. Gibbs and Alchemist have also shared their new 14-minute short film Alfredo: The Movie, a criminal-underworld tale that they filmed in Japan with director Nick Walker.
