Police arrested and charged seven people with drug trafficking and weapons offenses in relation to a massive drug bust that recently took place in downtown Winnipeg.
The police acted on complaints received about drug trafficking in the downtown area and in the Point Douglas area. On July 27th, the police executed five search warrants, resulting in the seizure of over 10 kilograms of drugs. These drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, have an estimated street value of over 5.5 million dollars. The police stated that they have seen a significant increase in drug seizures of this magnitude, with quantities ranging from 30 to 60 kilograms every two or three months.
The drug enforcement unit and guns and gangs unit have confiscated between 2 to 300 kilograms of drugs in the last two years, highlighting the magnitude of the drug problem in the country. Seven individuals were arrested and charged, with one of them being closely associated with an organized crime group based in Montreal. This drug bust serves as a reminder of the ongoing drug problem and drug issues not only in Winnipeg but throughout the country.
