For decades, Tech N9ne has been one of Kansas City’s biggest ambassadors, putting the city on the map through music long before the FIFA World Cup arrived.
In an exclusive interview with FOX4, the artist, born Aaron Yates, reflected on what it means to represent his hometown during one of the world’s largest sporting events. When asked what his 18-year-old self would think of Kansas City hosting the World Cup and of him serving as one of its cultural ambassadors, Tech N9ne admitted it’s beyond anything he imagined.
“Eighteen-year-old Aaron D. Yates would’ve never thought it would get this big. The World Cup and me being a part of it? You couldn’t have told me this at 18.”
Tech N9ne was selected to create Kansas City’s official FIFA World Cup 2026 Sonic ID a musical signature designed to represent the city’s identity throughout the tournament. While every host city received a Sonic ID, Kansas City’s stands apart because it features original lyrics, something Tech N9ne proudly says makes it unique. He collaborated with artists from Strange Music which is his label, to create the final version, centered around a theme that has defined much of his career.
