Jackson shared how he joined Kendrick Lamarâs halftime show, learned who Mustard is, and remembered a Tupac moment on âJimmy Kimmel Live!â
Samuel L. Jackson provided new details about his involvement in Kendrick Lamarâs Super Bowl halftime performance during a Monday (Nov. 17) appearance on âJimmy Kimmel Live!â The conversation saw him explaining how he joined the production. âWhen they called me and said, âYeah, weâd really like for you to be part of Kendrickâs halftime show,â itâs like, âReally?ââ he said. The veteran actor accepted the invitation immediately: âThey said, âWeâll send you a treatment or whatever.â I said, âI donât really care. Iâll be there.ââ
The âAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.â star described arriving and realizing how much work had already gone into the show. âWatching the dancers go through the routines, itâs like, damn, theyâve been rehearsing for a while,â he noted. He also said he didnât grasp the full scope of what was taking place until the dress rehearsal. Jackson added that many people already refer to him as âUncle Samâ in everyday life, which he carried into the role.
One of the most memorable moments came when Jackson spoke about one of Lamarâs biggest collaborators. While discussing those he encountered on site, the actor described a piece of information that caught him entirely off guard: âI finally found out that there was a guy named Mustard, not just he was just yelling âmustardâ… All that was new information for me.â The humorous comment was a presumed reference to Lamarâs signature ad-lib from the GNX standout âtv off.â The Mustard-produced number served as the halftime showâs closing track.
