Attorneys for disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly allege that his recent overdose in prison was not accidental—but an attempted murder orchestrated by prison staff.
According to a court filing submitted on June 17, Kelly’s legal team claims that he was given an “overdose quantity” of anxiety and sleep medication on June 12, far beyond his normal dosage. The next day, the singer reportedly began losing vision, collapsed in his cell, and ultimately lost consciousness. Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, released a statement reiterating the seriousness of the incident and accusing the Bureau of Prisons of trying to kill his client. Brindley, who has previously sought a pardon from President Donald Trump, once again appealed directly to him, stating:
“It is this immediate and imminent threat that compels us again to seek the intervention of President Trump. The courts do not move as quickly as the efforts to kill this man. President Trump may be the only person who can save the life of R. Kelly.”
The attorney also claimed that Kelly was forcibly removed from a hospital room following a diagnosis of blood clots in his lungs—despite doctors recommending a two-week hospitalization for surgery.
