Prince George’s County (PG County) is a major center for Black prosperity and wealth in the United States. Government jobs, military careers, and minority-owned business contracts helped build this community. The population in Woodmore is over 80% Black. The median household income is around $184,000 to $214,000. Home prices often reach $1 million to $3 million. As detailed in a BBC News report, the large brick homes and manicured lawns inspired fictional television settings.
In Fort Washington, about 75% of households earn a six-figure income. Residents include business owners, doctors, and military officials. Luxury homes here can cost up to $3.5 million. Upper Marlboro has a population that is 71% Black, with a median household income over $116,000.
Other regions across the United States also feature prominent, affluent Black neighbourhoods and suburbs.
Olympia Fields, Illinois: This village near Chicago has a high rate of Black homeownership. Many residents work in medicine or business.
Baldwin Hills and View Park, California: Often called the “Black Beverly Hills,” this Los Angeles area features homes averaging $1.5 million. Residents include actors, doctors, and corporate professionals.
