At the 68th ceremony on Sunday night, Lamar dethroned Jay-Z as the most-awarded rapper in Grammy history after taking home the gramophone for best rap album for “GNX.”

The 12-track album, released in November 2024, came at the tail-end of the height of the beef with Canadian rapper Drake. So far, Kenrick has won four Grammys: best rap song for “tv off,” best rap performance for his contribution to The Clipse’s “Chains & Whips,” best rap album for “GNX,” and best melodic rap performance for “luther” with SZA. Lamar was nominated nine times this year, two of which are for his surprise studio album “GNX.” The project received nods for album of the year and best rap album.

These wins bring Lamar’s career total to 24 Grammys. He now sits just three wins behind Jay-Z’s record of 25. Jay-Z currently holds the title for most Grammy wins by a rapper. Lamar entered Sunday’s ceremony with nine nominations. That’s the most for any artist this year. He’s still in the running for major awards tonight. The primetime show could see him win Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.
