Rick Ross was arrested early Thursday in Miami Beach on domestic violence charges amid separate abuse allegations from his former girlfriend.

The 50-year-old rapper faces felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanour battery following the Oct. 1 arrest. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center around 6:10 a.m. under his legal name, William Leonard Roberts. The booking listed bond at $5,000 for the strangulation charge and $1,000 for battery, totalling $6,000. A listed bond amount does not establish whether Ross has been released.

CBS News Miami reported that Ross retained private attorney Bradley Horenstein and has an arraignment scheduled for Oct. 22. The outlet also noted that jail records caution that displayed bond information may not reflect the current amount. Details surrounding the alleged incident remained unavailable Thursday morning. The identity of the alleged victim had not been released, leaving a central question about the case unanswered as news of the arrest spread.

The arrest followed public allegations from Ross’ former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, who recently accused him of physical abuse. Kendrick claimed he injured her lip during an alleged incident about a month earlier. Kendrick shared images on Instagram Stories that she said showed the injury. Ross had not responded to her allegations as of this week and an inquiry from AllHipHop was not answered. Authorities have not confirmed whether Kendrick’s account is connected to Thursday’s arrest.
