50 Cent is celebrating an Emmy win after his Netflix documentary about Diddy took home a major award.
“Sean Combs: The Reckoning” won Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program at the 78th Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The Television Academy’s official listing credits editors Charles Divak, Evan Wise, Jack Gravina, Benji Kast, Adam Goldstein, Jonathan Miller and Jeremy Siefer. The four-part Netflix series examines Diddy’s rise through Bad Boy Entertainment, his relationships with artists and employees, and the sexual misconduct allegations that later surrounded his empire.
Director Alexandria Stapleton said the footage was legally obtained after the filmmakers located material recorded by Diddy’s own videographer. The documentary includes allegations from former employees, artists, associates and people who filed civil lawsuits against Diddy. Those claims include sexual assault, coercion, domestic violence, intimidation and pressure placed on people inside his business world. One of the documentary’s most serious sections addresses the deaths of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. Former Bad Boy co-founder Kirk Burrowes alleged that Diddy resented the friendship between the two rappers.
The Emmy arrives after the documentary faced criticism because of 50 Cent’s long-running feud with Diddy. The award gives the series formal industry recognition despite the dispute surrounding its production.
