Doechii made a quiet but powerful statement this week. The Grammy-winning rapper updated her Instagram bio with one simple word that speaks volumes.

The Tampa native created this lifestyle account to show a different side of herself. She explained in one of her posts that she wants space to “express Jaylah the human outside of Doechii the artist.” Doechii has never publicly revealed who her girlfriend is. The couple has kept their relationship private with no public sightings together. The bio update represents another step in her ongoing journey of authentic self-expression. Her account now has two posts and continues to grow as fans discover this more personal side of the artist.

Doechii’s mainstream breakthrough moment came in the summer of 2024, when her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal blew up. The release wound up becoming only the third by a female artist to be honoured with Best Rap Album at the Grammys, the same year that Doechii herself was also nominated in the Best New Artist category. Shortly after her Grammy win, an old Doechii demo called Anxiety began doing the rounds, resulting in her re-recording the track, which went on to become her biggest chart hit to date.

Doechii appears to have come out as a lesbian. Eagle-eyed fans of the musician noticed that she changed the Instagram bio on her lifestyle side account, gutsgritglamour, to include the word ‘lesbian’. Doechii previously identified as bisexual, and has spoken about her sexuality on several occasions. In an interview with GayTimes in 2024, she said: “I think I’ve always been gay. I always knew I was gay. I’m currently bisexual. I am with a woman now and I have always known that I loved women. I’ve been very, very aware from an early age.” #comingout #lesbian #lgbtqia🏳️‍🌈
