Mariah the Scientist has spoken out about the criticism she receives for her relationship with Young Thug.

The couple began dating around the time they collaborated on 2021 song “Walked In,” and Mariah proceeded to support Thug throughout his YSL racketeering trial, which ended in the rapper being acquitted. Mariah, who released her fourth album Hearts Sold Separately, on Friday (August 22), discussed dating the Atlanta rapper in a new interview with Associated Press, as well as the judgment that comes with it. The singer added that she wants to “actively decide” on the relationship for herself and decide if it’s something that’s “serving” her or not. “It’s definitely been a process,” she concluded. “But I like to talk about it. I feel like it’s therapeutic to make music about it.”

Earlier this month, Mariah shared her admiration for Thug as the father of six children, and encouraged child-free women to date parents to explore their maternal nature.
