HBO has announced that they will not renew the  Sam Levinson-created drama “The Idol,” which starred Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd.
Season one of the series was met with bad ratings, which is why many believe it was canceled. A statement from the network reads:
“The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response. After much consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers, have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”
The first season featured just five episodes, shortened from the originally planned six-episode run. The show was poorly received, with a 19% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
