WWE legend Triple H sat down with Stephen A. Smith for an episode of “Stephen A’s World,” where he detailed a near-death experience that has led to him officially announcing his retirement from the wrestling world.

Triple H, real name Paul Levesque, went into heart failure last September after battling viral pneumonia. He explained that after his wife, WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon, noticed he was coughing up blood. After going to the ER, Triple H was informed that his heart and lungs were surrounded by fluid. From there, Triple H detailed going into heart failure, stating, “I was nose-diving and sort of at the 1-yard line of where you don’t want to be really, for your family and your future. There’s moments in there when they’re putting you out for stuff and you think, ‘Is this it? Do you wake up from this?’ That’s tough to swallow and makes you think differently.”
