Tyler Perry touched on the news surrounding Geoffrey Owens bagging groceries at a Trader Joe’s last year, which he called “the measure of a man.”

After the news hit about Owens’ job, Perry cast him in a recurring, 10-episode role on Perry’s hit OWN drama, The Haves and the Have Nots.  Perry told Buzzfeed Profiles that a lot of actors are arrogant and wouldn’t think of working a blue-collar job after getting some roles, and he applauded Owens for doing what he had to do for his family. Tyler said that he would do the same thing if it came down to it.
