The NFL’s stance on player protests has soured the allure for the marquee artists who already have a legion of fans.
Rihanna recently declined an offer from the league to perform at halftime citing the NFL’s response to player protests and her support of Colin Kaepernick as the reason for passing on the offer. An insider revealed to US Weekly, “The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta, […] They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”
The NFL eventually locked in Maroon 5 to perform and reports have been circulating that Cardi B could be a special guest during the set.
