Rakim Weighs in on Billboard Naming OutKast the ‘Best Rap Group of All Time’

Hip Hop legend Rakim was recently asked to weigh in on Billboard’s list for the 50 best rap groups of all time.

While his group, Eric B and Rakim, landed at No. 7 on the list, Rakim felt they should’ve been higher. Nevertheless, Rakim was still grateful for the recognition. When asked about OutKast occupying the top spot he said, “It’s not really my place to say who else deserves it,” adding, “I can only speak for myself, but OutKast pushed the envelope—a group that a lot of people got love for, we gotta give flowers to who earns it.”

The groups that were rated higher than Eric B. and Rakim include, Public Enemy (No. 6), Run-D.M.C. (No. 5), A Tribe Called Quest (No. 4), N.W.A. (No. 3), and Wu-Tang Clan (No. 2), and OutKast (No. 1).
