The murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police sparked massive protests in Minneapolis as well as across the nation. While covering the protests in Minneapolis, CNN had a crew located in the middle of a face-off between police and protestors.
However, when one person tried to rush police, this caused the police who were standing in formation to take that protestor down, then set their sights on the CNN correspondent and his crew. Minnesota State Patrol issued a statement on arresting CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez and the filming crew, saying:
“In the course of clearing the streets and restoring order at Lake Street and Snelling Avenue, four people were arrested by State Patrol troopers, including three members of a CNN crew. The three were released once they were confirmed to be members of the media.”
